Freedom Youth

Freedom is a fun, safe, inclusive and supportive project where you can meet other lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer or questioning young people. It’s open to anyone questioning their sexuality or gender –  no labels applied!

Freedom is a young person led project that – depending on what you want – includes everything from social events, workshops and trips to activism and campaigning. As well as being fun and informal, you can also get specialist one-to-one and group support, including counselling.

Our main social group, Freedom Youth is one of Bristol’s longest running youth groups and is attended by a wide range of LGBTQ young people from all across Bristol every Tuesday night from 6.45-9pm. Group members decide the programme which often includes games, discussions, trips, workshops, cooking and creative activities. It is supported by a team of friendly and experienced youth workers and new members are always welcome.

GENDER JELLY GROUP (13-25) A monthly safe space for young people who might be questioning their gender identity, or who identify on the trans spectrum, to talk about gender and what it means to them. Sessions are workshop based and provide support, information and signposting.

1:1 support

As well as our groups, the Freedom staff team offers one-to-one support and signposting. This support could be around identity or more widely with issues such as housing, family, relationships, school or mental health. For more therapeutic support, young people can also access Off The Record’s in-house LGBTQ counsellors.

Projects, Events and Campaigning

As Freedom is a young-person led service, we are always open to new ideas for projects, events and campaigns that promote the project or raise awareness of issues surrounding gender or sexuality. Current examples of this include an oral history project, mentoring, new website design, a library and getting involved with events such as Bristol Pride. These projects give young people an opportunity to develop new skills and to use their creativity in a really positive way.
