Supporting parents and professionals to talk to children (0-13yrs) about growing up, puberty, relationships & sex
Aimed at:
- Those who work with 0-13 year olds such as children’s centre staff, primary school learning mentors etc.
- Those that provide a parent support role such as parenting practitioners, family support workers or social workers
Aims:
To provide professionals with the skills and materials to both support parents and carers in speaking with their children but also consider what the children they work with might be asking at what age, what pressures they might be under and what physical changes they might be experiencing as part of puberty.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand why it is important for parents / carers to talk to children about growing up, relationships and sex
- Consider when to talk to children about different topic areas from puberty to periods
- Consider the Relationships and Sex Education that might be taught at primary level and how to link in with this
- Look at how parents might start conversations with children
- Look at the pressures on children and young people from inside and outside the home
- Learn about additional support locally and nationally

Please complete the form below at least 3 weeks before the date you have chosen. You will receive a letter 2 weeks before the course confirming your place & providing details of the venue. You can use the same form to apply for more than one course at a time but please ensure you include the title AND date of all the courses you wish to attend. These courses are free but if you cannot attend, you must let us know by 9a.m. on the day before the course or you will be charged £50 for full-day courses and £25 for half-day courses.
