Talk Contraception

During our social marketing research last summer young people told us that sex is most often a spontaneous activity, including within relationships, and that contraception often doesn’t get used because of this.

We also know that there are a number of myths circulating in Bristol around contraception – including that some types will cause long term infertility.

To counter this we have produced a leaflet for young people and a resource pack for professionals to raise awareness of the 4 types of contraception called LARC (Long Acting Reversible Contraception). These are the 4 types that:

  • You don’t have to think about everyday
  • Are very effective
  • Can last from 12 weeks to 10 years
  • Allow your fertility to return to normal after use

We hope the leaflet will help put right any incorrect information young people might have, whilst empowering young women to make informed choices around planning ahead with reliable contraception methods.

You can also download two activity ideas that have been taken from the new SRE pack and these would be perfect for group activities. They provide an opportunity to further explore relationships, including protection from sexually transmitted infections and messages around delay with both young women and young men.

If you want any further information on the actual types of contraception, these are available for download too.
