NHS Bristol – making noise about Chlamydia
NHS organisations across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset have joined together to make some noise about the silent sexually transmitted infection, Chlamydia.
The Campaign, called make some noise for Chlamydia, starts this Friday (October 23rd). There will be a range of activities planned to raise awareness of the infection among sexually active 15 – 24 year olds and encouraging them to take a simple test.
Deborah Evans, chief executive of NHS Bristol said:
“Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted disease in under 25 year olds. Yet, in the former Avon area, only around 18% actually get themselves tested. Most young people do not realise how important it is to get tested and how easy it is to be treated.”
Street Teams will be hitting the streets of Bristol this weekend to raise awareness and offer people the chance to take a test – which just involves peeing in a pot.
The teams will also out and about in Bristol from Thursday 29th October to Sunday 1st November. To find out where the Street Teams will be each day people can text ‘screen’ to 83010 (standard text rates apply).
And next week (Tuesday 27th October) two stars of the new series of E4’s Skins will be joining the wests newest Super star, Captain Chlamydia to unveil a piece of graffiti art about Chlamydia in Stokes Croft, the cultural quarter of Bristol.
